Journey at Your Own Pace

Start your process, and then take journey at your own pace over the course of two weeks (everything is video recorded in segments to make it easy for you to start, stop, pause, come back). We'll be here this whole time to guide you as you connect to the CODEX of the Lady including any art doctor support you may desire.

Art as Sacred Practice

A retreat right from your home ... we will come to you, & you'll be connected to a web of other women exploring the CODEX of the Lady and her messages for us today. Together we will paint and learn and bring the CODEX into our lives and beings. The history of the lady is filled with magic, mystery, legend, myth and Madonna Mojo. Let her presence bless and inform you guided by two women artists who are devoted to her.

Dear Ones,

Surely you know the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe. How she appeared as a beautiful woman surrounded by a ball of light. Who is this being? What messages are encoded in her that she brings to us? Her entire image is a code for messages from the ancestors... what story is she telling us? IN our painting process we will walk through the primary 13 messages held within her miraculous image. This will be a day of true devotion, ritual, and deepening our study and experience of the Lady.

Join us as we explore the symbols and messages of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Be prepared for luminous rituals of creativity. She calls us into an experience of the sacred, both embodied and mystical.

When we work with her image and paint Her into our lives and stories a connection is made that changes how we relate to the Universe, and to our own personal spiritual story.

Emily Grieves

Emily Grieves received a BFA degree in art from the University of Montana in 1993, followed by study of art history in Berlin, Germany, as a Fulbright scholar. She lived in San Francisco, California, for 10 years where she began exploring symbology, mythology, and ritual in her artwork, drawing inspiration from the celebrations and mysteries of life, and immersing herself in study of the healing arts as well. She has been a practitioner of shamanic healing and hands-on energy work for over 16 years.

As of 2004, she makes her home in Teotihuacan, Mexico, where she has painted murals at the Dreaming House spiritual retreat center and has created a body of artwork influenced by the cosmological imagery left in the 2000 year old pyramids. Emily had her first solo exhibition in Mexico in 2012 at the Museo Gonzalo Carrasco, Centro Regional Cultural, in Otumba. She enjoys guiding groups into the transformational energies of the pyramids, into connection to the Divine Feminine, and inviting women in particular to express themselves creatively.

Emily is a certified Intentional Creativity Coach and Intuitive Painting Teacher in the Color of Woman Method as developed and taught by Shiloh Sophia McCloud. In 2014, she opened her studio Taller de Arte El Refugio in Teotihuacan, where she teaches classes to local women and girls as well as to international visitors. In her art and healing, it is Emily’s intention to create portals to the sacred and to open hearts. Visit her at

Exploring Mary, Our Lady, in Her beloved aspect of the Virgin of Guadalupe in particular, but opening to the energy of the Divine Mother in all Her “costumes.”  I’ve always felt that the same Divine Mother appears all around the world to Her devotees, simply changing Her costume, Her appearance, Her language to accommodate different cultures, religions and faiths.  Perhaps this is an unorthodox belief, but I can’t help it – every image or concept I’ve encountered in all the world of the Mother aspect of the Divine Feminine holds for me the experience of compassion and unconditional love above all, mercy and understanding. Even as the Mother sometimes fiercely scolds Her children, She does so with their best interests in Her heart, because She loves them so deeply.  My highest experience of the Mother is to be held in Her embrace, Her arms folded around me in an endless stream of love, and I have found this experience most deeply in Our Lady of Guadalupe. ~ Emily Grieves
